Suspected robbers remanded in prison for allegedly stealing motorcycles in Ondo

Four middle-age men have been remanded at the Olokuta Medium Prison, Akure, Ondo State for allegedly stealing motorcycles at gunpoint.

The suspected robbers, identified as Ojo Abiodun, 27, Sarafa Amusat, 25, Tunde Ogunsan, 25 and Wale Adebisi, 25, were arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Oka, Ondo West Local Government Area of the State.

They were dragged before the court on a three-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

The suspects were alleged to have attacked and robbed their victim, Oluwadamilare Ogunfuyi, of his unregistered Q-link motorcycle valued at N210, 000 as well as snatching of a Boxer motorcycle with number plate SGM 719 QH valued at N242,000 from one Benson Ademoroti.

They were also accused to have been armed with one cut to size single barrel gun and one cut to size locally-made dane gun.

It was gathered that the accused persons and others at large committed the crime between the month of February and March, 2019 at Bolorunduro street, Ondo and Bagbe within the Ondo Magisterial District.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Gbenga Akinsulure prayed the court to remand the accused in prison custody pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.

With the plea of the accused persons not granted, the court presided over by Magistrate Odenusi Fadeyi consequently ordered their remand in prison custody pending the outcome of advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.

The alleged offences were said to be contrary to section 6(b) and punishable under section 1(1) 2(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provision) Act Cap. R11 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The case was subsequently adjourned till June 10, 2019.
