Suspected ritualists have reportedly kidnapped a 13-day-old baby at Ajowa-Akoko in Akoko North-West local government area of Ondo State.
It was gathered that the incident happened at Uro Quarters area of the town when the mother of the baby was said to be in deep sleep.
According to one of the residents of the town, an aged women who encountered the suspected ritualists was cut with machete, a development which he said had thrown the town into confusion.
The resident, who preferred anonymity, also stated that the suspected ritualists were two in number and wore face masks.
Confirming the incident, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the area, Adetaranmi Ibitayo said that investigation has commenced towards unravelling circumstances surrounding the baby’s abduction.
The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph who also confirmed the incident, explained that the hoodlums gained entrance into the building through the backdoor around 1am.
Joseph also confirmed that the father of the abducted baby and the mother are living separately.
The PPRO however disclosed that police from the command had commenced investigation while detectives have been on the trail of the criminals to rescue the infant from the captives.
