Suspected pipeline vandals have reportedly attacked and killed a flow line surveillance guard, Samuel Okporokpo at Olomoro Community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
DAILY POST learnt that the vandals also carted away Control Circuit Unit in Oil Well 3/26 in an oil field belonging to an energy Operating firm.
The Control Circuit is estimated at seven million naira.
It was gathered that the suspected vandals attacked the deceased, a 54-year old man who was on night duty.
An eyewitness who craved anonymity said the suspected vandals killed the guard because he saw them in their attempts to steal the Control Circuit.
According to the eyewitness, the Surveillance Guard challenged the suspected vandals before they clubbed him to death.
He added that they left him with his motorcycle and mobile phone.
Contacted, the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka confirmed the report.
DSP Aniamaka said “It was a case of murder of a surveillance man at the facility. We are already on a manhunt for the hoodlums who perpetrated the act.
“The item stolen, which in fact may be the reason why they attacked him, is worth about N7 million. It is not what we see easily in the market.
“They (the hoodlums) know we are looking for them, so invariably they may be in hiding, but eventually, as many as they are, they will be brought to book.”
