Suspected Muslims youths allegedly set school ablaze in Bauchi

Suspected Muslim youths in the wee hours of Wednesday allegedly burnt down a private school in Yelwa area of Bauchi near the Customs office.

DAILY POST reports that the school was completely burnt down leaving only rubbles. It was gathered that the security man at the school however escaped death.

A resident, who craved anonymity, told DAILY POST that the school belongs to Christian, and that this must have informed its destruction.

He stated that everything was completely razed, especially books and other learning materials.

“Suspected Muslim youths might be fingered for the burning down of the school since it belongs to a Christian,” the resident said.

When our correspondent visited the area, it was discovered that armed security men have condoned off the area to prevent further violence.

Yelwa is currently taken over by armed security men following the pandemonium that broke out in the town, with shops under lock. The police had confirmed that three died while 18 injured in Sunday’s attack after a birthday party, and the arrest of 75 suspects.

Angry Bauchi women had staged a serious protest blocking the police division early Monday, demanding the release of arrested Christian youths, and accusing the police of sparing Muslim attackers.

DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar, Bauchi state Police Command’s spokesman, confirmed the burning of the school.

He added that the command has already deployed security in the trouble area to contain the situation.

“We have already mobilized our men to the area, and I am sure normalcy has returned since,” Abubakar said.
