Tragedy was averted at the weekend in Benue State as a middle-aged man escaped being lynched by residents for allegedly attempting to kidnap some children.
The suspect, who identified himself as Blessing, was nabbed on Sunday in Akpachi community in the Otukpo area of the state.
He was apprehended while trying to offer children canned drinks, biscuits and milk.
But luck ran out on him when a resident of the area sighted him and raised the alarm.
An irate mob beat him to stupor before he reportedly confessed to the crime.
Although, when contacted Monday, the state Police Command image maker, Mr. Moses Yamu, told DAILY POST the command was not aware of the incident, he promised to get back to our reporter as soon as the information was within his reach.
But reports indicate that the suspect, during interrogation claimed to be a native of Akwa Ibom State, who allegedly lost his way while returning from Port Harcourt where he went for a teaching training.
