The special security outfit, Bayelsa Waterways Security Taskforce, Monday, arrested suspected masterminds of the attack on a military post in the Nembe area of the state that led to the death of three soldiers.
The security outfit, led by ex-militant leader, Master Africanus Ukparasia, arrested the suspects at Olugbobiri community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, LGA, of the state based on an intelligence tip-off.
It would be recalled that on August 8, suspected militants attacked the Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe, in Bayelsa State, and killed three soldiers.
DAILY POST had reported that the incident occurred about 9.30am at Tombi Jetty, Ogolomabiri in Nembe Local Government Area of the state.
The militants escaped with military gunboats, rifles, arms and other ammunition, after they ambushed the task force who were at a checkpoint.
Community sources claimed that the soldiers attached to the attacked check point were caught unawares as they could not return fire in the surprised attack.
Following the attack, panic was triggered in Nembe communities with indigenes moving out in fear of military reprisal but the State Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral John Jonah, who is an indigene of Nembe Kingdom was reported to have led some government officials on a fact finding report and to calm the rising tension.
Upon their arrest yesterday, water-ways security task force team handed the culprits over to the Military – Operation Delta Safe Command, while the deceased were deposited at a morgue.
