A group of suspected armed herdsmen on Sunday reportedly killed six persons in Benue state.
The herdsmen invaded the Nenzev ward in Logo Local Government Area, LGA, of the state at about mid-day.
Among the six persons killed was the leader of Gabu community in the state, identified as Zaki Dadi Gabu.
The deceased were loaded into the carrier of a truck and conveyed to the general hospital in Logo, where they were deposited in the morgue.
According to residents, the latest killings increased the number of deaths from herdsmen attack to 81 in the last two weeks.
The traditional ruler of Logo LGA, Chief Jimmy Meeme, reacting to the incident in an interview with Channels TV, blamed the attack on the herdsmen whose territorial occupation in the state has led to spates of violence.
Meeme revealed that 70 persons were killed in six out of the 10 council wards under his watch.
However, the spokesman of the Benue State Police Command, ASP Moses Yamu, told the press that only 22 people were killed in Logo and Ukum LGAs in two weeks.
Yamu also dismissed the claims of poor security in the state, adding that the attack has led to the rise of internally displaced persons in the state.
