Suspected cultists on Monday invaded the Divisional Police headquarters of “C” Division along Asaba/Lagos expressway by the River Niger bridge head, DAILY POST can report.
The suspected cultists seriously wounded the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Anieteh Eyoh, as well as the Divisional Crime Officer of the station.
It was learnt that the suspected cultists launched their attack on the police station probably to rescue one of their members who was arrested over alleged armed robbery.
A source, who craved anonymity, said the detained suspect was trying to escape after he had informed and mobilized his gang members to rescue him.
The source said the suspected cultists launched their attack at a time officers and men of the division were busy trying to intercept suspected robbery gang.
DAILY POST learnt that the gallant DPO, Eyoh, and his men, in a commando style, overpowered the suspected cultists who scampered for safety and in the process, one Prince Harrison, leader of Behind Bars Initiative, was arrested.
It is however not clear if Prince Harrison is a suspect at the time of this report. It was alleged that Prince Harrison came under the pretence of bailing the arrested suspect from the police custody.
As he stepped into the DPO’s office to enquire why the Police detained the arrested armed robbery suspect, an argument ensued wherein he allegedly tore the uniform of the DPO, and ransacked his office.
It was further learnt that the police arrested Prince Harrison while he was trying to cart away vital documents from the DPO’s office.
When contacted, the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka confirmed the report.
