Suspected armed robbers kill 74-year-old farmer in Delta, disappear with his motorcycle

Suspected armed robbers operating in Igbodo Community in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, in the early hours of Friday allegedly killed a 74-year-old farmer identified as Sunday Amaechi.

The suspected killers also disappeared with his motorcycle

His corpse was discovered by some villagers who were on their way to their farms.

But the Police Commissioner in the state, Anthony Agbidi, who confirmed the killing of the farmer to newsmen in Asaba, disclosed that the police were yet to arrest any suspect as efforts were on to fish out the perpetrators.

CP Anthony Agbidi said, “The police are investigating the incident but no arrest has been made. Reports indicated that the armed robbers after allegedly killing the farmer right inside his farm land made away with his motorcycle. Investigation is on going while the corpse of the victim has been deposited at Umunede General Hospital mortuary for autopsy. The police will leave no stone unturned to ensure the arrest of the suspects.”

Sources alleged that there had been strange killings of persons within Agbor, Igbodo, and Umunede communities, a situation that has heightened fear of the unknown among its residents in the last few months. But CP Agbidi, however, assured that the police were working hard to ensure the hoodlums were brought to book sooner than later.

A family member of the deceased, who did not want his name in the print said the late Amaechi was married with five children.
