Suspected armed robbers, Sunday, dispossessed a woman, Mrs. Ogaga Agboye of her golden wedding ring at about 3pm in front of Gethsemane Ministry, near Believers Love World (Christ Embassy) Okpojuko Street in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, DAILY POST is reporting.
The armed robbery incident is coming barely two days after some armed robbers stormed the same area on a commercial motorcycle and robbed residents of their belongings, including cash.
In a chat with DAILY POST, the victim, Mrs. Agboye confirmed that she lost her wedding ring to the bandits.
She said, “I am not wearing my wedding ring anymore. The armed robbers robbed me off my wedding ring in a broad day light. This area is not safe and government needs to do something about.”
Mrs. Agboye who was returning from church when the incident occurred said, “I don’t think these guys are small boys because they are mature and they carried guns. My annoyance is that it happened in a broad day light when I was returning from church like others. The luck I had is that my little sister in front had gone home with my bag containing my own phone.”
The incident has caused tension in the area as residents have expressed fears that the suspected armed robbers may strike again.
The Area Commander of the Nigeria Police in Ughelli, ACP Usman Ndanbabo could not be reached for comments on the matter but a police source who craved anonymity assured residents of the area that the police will do its best in keeping the area and the entire Ughelli safe in this Ember months. He said a stop and search team has been mobilized to strategic locations of the town to track down hoodlums.
