Supreme court sacks Sheriff, affirms Makarfi as PDP chairman

The Supreme Court in Abuja has declared Senator Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

It also affirmed on Wednesday the National Convention of the Party that held on May 21, 2016 in Port Harcourt which produced Makarfi as the Chairman of the Party’s National Caretaker Committee (NCC)

Delivering the judgment on behalf of the five-man panel of Justices, Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour set aside the ruling of the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt that affirmed Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the Chairman of the party.

Rhodes-Vivour ruled that the decision of the Port Harcourt Convention was right to have removed Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the Chairman of the party being the highest decision-making organ of the party.

The Court consequently ordered that Ali Modu Sheriff and members of his National Working Committee (NWC) be sacked from the leadership of the Party with immediate effect.

DAILY POST observed that Sheriff and key members of his NWC were absent in court.

However, Ahmed Makarfi, Olisa Metuh, governors Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state, Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, ex-governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa state, Bode George, Dayo Adeyeye, Jerry Gana and a host of ex-Ministers who served under the PDP-led federal governments between 1999 and 2015 were present while the judgement was delivered.
