Supreme court rulings on Emmanuel, Ikpeazu rekindles citizens’ hope – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended the Supreme Court for affirming the election of Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia respectively.

The commendation is contained in a statement issued by Prince Uche Secondus, the PDP acting National Chairman on Thursday in Abuja.

Secondus said that the Wednesday’s rulings of the court in which it upheld the election of the two governors further reinvigorated the hope and trust of the citizenry in the judiciary.

According to him, the judgment has strengthened the belief of the people in the judiciary as the bastion of democracy.

He noted that “indeed, the PDP and all lovers of democracy in the country commend the maturity and patriotism being displayed by the Supreme Court in dispensing justice.

“This is a development which has strengthened the confidence of the people in democracy and the rule of law.’’

He added that another ruling of the apex court, last week, which affirmed the election of Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers and Dave Umahi of Ebonyi respectively were also a welcome development.

“The rulings have not only put a seal on the popularity of our governors as duly reflected in the elections, but also that of the PDP, irrespective of the temporary setback of the 2015 general elections,’’ he said.

Secondus noted that Nigerians were no longer in doubt of the fact that in spite of the electoral challenges, the PDP remained the only pan-Nigerian party.

“PDP remains the only pan-Nigerian party committed to the national interest, with the capacity, vision and direction to deliver and sustain a united and prosperous country.

“This is the reason why we are working hard to regain power at the centre in 2019.”

Secondus congratulated the governors and all well-meaning Nigerians for the victory.

He called on all PDP elected and appointed office holders at all levels to continue to provide purposeful leadership in line with the ideology and visions of the party’s founding fathers. (NAN)
