Supporters storm Ekiti court, demand unconditional release of Olukere’s trial

Hundreds of supporters of the Olukere of Ikere Ekiti, second largest town after the state capital, Ado Ekiti, yesterday stormed the magistrate court premises in Ado Ekiti, in solidarity of the man they called their monarch, and demanded for his unconditional release, insisting that the man did not commit any crime.

Recall that Olukere was remanded in prison custody on December 27, last year over an alleged murder of one Kolade Femi, identified as toilet attendant in Fayose market in the state capital.

Obasoyin’s loyalists were alleged to have attacked the deceased when he led them and some men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) to a place in Ado Ekiti, on Christmas day after an earlier attack on his hotel in Ikere by suspected hoodlums.

Olukere’ s trial which was adjourned on January 3 for his alleged health challenge, has again been adjourned to January 31 and to be determined at the state high court on February 19, as the magistrate court lacks the jurisdiction for full trial.

Details later…
