Support IGP’s mop-up exercise – AIG, Abubakar tasks Rivers traditional rulers

The new Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone Six, AIG Usman Abubakar has tasked traditional rulers to stop aiding criminals and work with the police.

AIG Abubakar on his maiden visit to Rivers state told the Traditional Rulers at the Rivers state Police Command that securing the State starts from the communities.

He noted that Rivers state would have experienced rapid growth and development but for the incessant security issues bedevilling the State.

The new Zone Six AIG, Abubakar who once served as Commissioner of Police in Abia State also said the disarmament campaign of the Nigeria Police Force was not targeted at any group.

According to him, “Policing is a collective responsibility.

“I am appealing to all of you to take the IGP’s directive on Firearms Mop Up seriously, as it is only targeted at fighting violent crimes such as Kidnapping, Armed Robbery, Cultism, Herdsmen/ Farmers clashes.”

AIG Usman Abubakar called on members of the public, especially residents of the hinterlands, to help the police in the mop up operation for peace to return to the State and the region.

The AIG ended his two day visit to Rivers State with the decoration of the much criticised SARS Commander, Akin Fakorede who has been promoted to the rank of an Assistant Commissioner of Police, DCP Stephen Hasso and CSP Rotimi Odutana.

AIG Usman Abubakar takes over from Abubakar Marafa who is now retired.
