Super Eagles to camp in France ahead of AFCON 2019 qualifier

The Super Eagles will camp in the Province of Alpes Cotze Azur in France, at the end of the league season in Europe, ahead of their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa.

Gernot Rohr’s men were able to play one international friendly match in the current window – a 1-1 draw with Senegal at The Hive Stadium in London.

The second game against Burkina Faso was cancelled, after players from the West African nation failed to get their British visas.

Instead, there was a closed-door friendly between two teams formed from the Eagles squad at the Hive Stadium.

Stand-in skipper Ogenyi Onazi led a Team ‘A’ side comprising of Daniel Akpeyi, Leon Balogun, Ola Aina, William-Troost Ekong, Elderson Echiejile, Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi.

The Team ‘B’ side captained by Kenneth Omeruo had Ikechukwu Ezenwa in goal, Tyronne Ebuehi at right-back, Chidozie Awaziem, Juwon Oshaniwa at left-back, Shehu Abudulahi, John Ogu in central midfield, Kayode Olanrewaju, Isaac Success, Ebere Eze.

According to the Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, the camp will put the team in good shape ahead of the clash against Bafana Bafana in June.

“We will have another camp like this at the end of the season where all these players will meet again before the game against South Africa,” Ibitoye revealed.
