Nigeria and FK Haugesund of Norway defender, William Troost-Ekong has been nominated for Defender of the Year award for 2016 in the Eliteserien top division.
The defenders nomination was announced on FK Haugesund’s official website on Tuesday.
Other categories include Best referee, Best coach, Best Goalkeeper, Best Midfielder and Best Striker.
The club wrote on its website, “The series is nearing its end and the Norwegian Football Association, NFA, Norwegian Toppfotball, NTF, and Adult Women, SKF, invite people to vote on which players, coaches and referees who have been the best in their field this year.
“FK Haugesund William Troost-Ekong is nominated for the ‘Year defender’.”
Troost-Ekong, who joined the Norwegian topflight on loan from Gent in 2015, has been impressive, featuring regularly for the team.
The Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist has scored three goals in 23 appearances for Haugesund from his defensive role this season.
The defender was also outstanding for the Super Eagles in their 2-1 away win against Zambia in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
