Suntai’s case not hopeless, but he needs rest – Doctors warn Taraba Governor to stay off politics

As battle for the restoration of the failing health of Governor Dambaba Suntai of Taraba state continues, US Doctors have said all hope was not lost for his full recovery.

A source at the Seaview Hospital and Rehabilitation Home, US, had said that the governor needed to take a long break from politics.

According to the medical source, one of the instructions handed to his family and officials of the state government by the US doctors was having a good rest.

The Doctor said Suntai was stressed, due to the plane crash that occurred ten months ago.

The medical source said, “Suntai suffered from Diffuse Axonal Injury (DAI), one of the most common and devastating types of traumatic brain injury. During the rehabilitation period, the source narrated, Suntai often relapsed in and out of bouts of trauma.

“When the medical Doctors heard that Suntai was fighting to resume duties as Taraba State governor, they expressed their strong disapproval and advised him to stay clear politics.

According to him, “playing politics with one’s health is very dangerous to life. If Suntai is too tossed here and there, there is a danger of him entering a sudden state of seizure and going into morbidity. This often happens to patients with traumatic brain injuries,” the source explained.

Speaking further, the medical source said, Suntai should not be involved in any stressful activities until he has been certified fit by doctors, and his case is “not hopeless,” the medical official assured.

“But if what you’re saying is true, then I am disappointed in all those who were at the hospital with him, because they all saw his medical referral papers from the Hannover Medical School Hospital, Hanover, Germany, all lined out in thick yellow ink: ‘Patient must be allowed to rest.’

However, the source said Suntai’s case is “a very fragile one,” and sternly suggested that all the instructions by his medical Doctors should be obeyed and followed.

Another medical expert, hearing that Suntai is being made to work, spoke in similar manner: “My advice is, I will say, not now. Let him have the prescribed rest. He has only one life to live… Only medical Doctors can certify him fit and up. No, he can’t work just yet.”

“All the way from the Hannover Medical School (MHH), the University Medical Centre in Germany, one of the strongest points on his medical file is that he must be allowed comprehensive rest. Too bad, this is the vital part your country, Nigeria, seems to be toying with,”

“And quite often too, he was like a man under a spell because after that time, he was never able to make perceptible comments till he left the hospital.

“However, like I told you, his case is not hopeless. The man will get over his situation if only all the medical instructions are adhered to.” The expert said.
