Sunday Bomb Threat: Police begins deployment to churches

In few hours from now, the Nigerian police will begin a special deployment to churches across the country in a more professional way, and with all the necessary security back-ups. The Police in Abuja had disclosed that this decision was arrived as a result of the current threat of Boko Haram to attack churches this Sunday. The police had disclosed that a new strategy had been put in place in order the protect most of the churches in the North and other areas that are currently under attack by the Islamist militants.

The order was given to the Command Commissioners of Police and Assistant Inspectors-General  on Friday, and they have already put their men on ground already to begin the deployment this morning.

The order specified that the deployment would be backed by police van and all security apparatus in place including modern communication gadgets. The Nigerian police had also disclosed that helicopters have already been deployed to troubled Northern zones

The Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, confirmed the information but refused to give full detail due to some security reasons.

He said, “The new operational order will assist commanders on effective deployment of personnel so that they can repel, contain and manage attacks on places of worship, government buildings and installations.

“Our men have been placed on the alert even before the Boko Haram threat and we will do everything humanly possible to protect citizens and public facilities.”

It was reliably gathered that the new order was not unconnected to the news making the round that over 100 terrorists have invaded the city of Jos to begin an attack on Sunday. It has been reported that thousands of Jos residents are currently been put under serious tension as a result of the latest threat.

Spokesman for the Special Task Force on security in Plateau State, Captain Salisu Mustapha, had revealed to Dailypost that the information reaching them indicated that some group of terrorists have invaded Jos in order to begin attack on Sunday.

Mustapha said, “Yes, we have received such information and we are acting on it. We are mobilizing our men to counter any insurrection.

“We don’t take any information with a pinch of salt. Every information is evaluated and proper procedure (reaction) taken, and this one is not an exception.”

The Plateau state Commissioner of police had equally asserted that the threat to attack the state as confirmed by the security operatives in the state must be taken seriously as it is not an empty threat.

He said, “This bomb threat is real, very real and I know it because I’m in a position to know as the state commissioner of police.

“We are almost in a state of emergency and everyone is looking for a way of surviving and by the grace of God, very soon everything will be over.”

It was also revealed to daily post that more policemen have also been deployed to Kaduna state following the increase wave of violence in the state. A senior police officer who had pleaded not to be mentioned said  “Yes, more of our men have gone to Kaduna. I can’t tell you their number but they are there. We will try our best to maintain peace and order but government has the solution,” the police boss said.

A commissioner of Police had also told our correspondent that , “Everybody keeps asking what the police are doing. What do they want the police to do? We are talking about people that are ready to die.

“How do you face someone that is ready to die? Even though the bombings are crimes and the perpetrators can be labeled criminals, I am telling you that it is an ideological problem.

“It is only President Goodluck Jonathan and members of his cabinet that have the solution to the crises.

“The police cannot maintain law and order by dealing with faceless people that are ready to die.”
