Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has cautioned Islamic clerics against flamboyant lifestyles.

He said this in his speech at the 32nd National Qur’anic competition held in Katsina.

The Sultan expressed worry at how scholars go about in large entourage, engaging in show of wealth by “riding in luxurious vehicles and sleeping on water beds”.

Represented by the Emir of Katsina, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabi Usman, the Sultan emphasized that a decent lifestyle is what was needed by scholars to demonstrate exemplary leadership.

“Islam is a modest religion that encourages decency”, he said.

“Muslims are enjoined to adhere strictly to Islamic teachings in order to create and sustain a virtuous society.”

Meanwhile, Sultan Abubakar, has disclosed that traditional rulers have agreed to adopt children whose parents were killed by Boko Haram.

The monarch lamented that there were over 50,000 orphans at the camps of Internally Displaced Persons across the northeast, who should be catered for by well-meaning Nigerians.
