The University of Benin, Ugbowo campus was on Saturday thrown into chaos as news filtered in of a young lady (names withheld) said to have attempted suicide.
Sources said the girl, is a final year student of the department of accountancy and an inhabitant of hall-one hostel, took the deadly sniper but was immediately rushed to the hospital when her action was discovered.
It is unclear whether her suicide attempt is as a result of heart break.
“the girl took sniper but she was very lucky that people took notice very early and she has been rushed to the University of Benin teaching hospital, UBTH, where she has been placed on oxygen for treatment. But we really do not know what the result will be. ‘Na sniper dey reign na o’,” the source said.
Sources further said a student, who was crossing the road from the opposite, was involved in an accident while one other student ran mad during the night reading class in preparation for the forthcoming exam.
Reacting to the report, the University’s spokesperson, Mr Michael Osasuyi said he received a report concerning the incident concerning an attempted suicide which he also confirmed that the person is receiving treatment in UBTH and the parent are currently with the patient.
He however denied the other ones concerning a student being involved in an accident and the other one that ran mad.
“First, I want to tell you that from our record, there is no incident like accident and that of the student running mad but for the one involving the attempted suicide, we are aware. The person is at the University hospital and the parents are there looking after her,” Osasuyi added.
