Few days after a bomb explosion rocked a motor park in Gombe, Gombe State, another explosion this morning rocked Potiskum, Yobe State.
According to reports reaching DailyPost, the bomb was detonated by a suicide bomber who joined Muslim faithful of the Shia sect in a procession to mark the 10th day of the Muharram 1436 celebration.
The explosion, which went off at about 11.15 am, was reported to have killed scores of the Muslim worshippers.
A resident of the town said many followers of the sect, especially women and children died in the explosion.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Markus Danladi, confirmed the incident.
He said the bomber took advantage of the procession to detonate the bomb.
“Yes, a suicide bomber was among the Shia group and detonated his explosive device, killing members of the group, but I am still on my way to the scene of the incident,” the CP said.
Sources say the entire area has been cordoned off by security agents while the exact casualty figure is yet to be ascertained.
