The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has urged politicians to submit themselves to the will of the people so as to fully entrench the spirit of democracy in Nigeria.
He made this known while addressing political Stake holders and traditional rulers from Enugu East Senatorial District, led by Senator Gill Nnaji, who paid him a thank you visit in his country home Mpu, Enugu State.
According to Senator Ekweremadu “democracy means that leaders must at all times submit themselves to the will of the of the people and that is what we have demonstrated in Enugu State”.
The legislator argued that experience was the key to effective Legislation, adding that legislative work was done through experience and in most cases the first timer was not easily heard or nominated to make contributions.
Ekweremadu tasked the people of Enugu East to embark on a door to door campaign so as to ensure victory for the PDP.
He assured the people of Enugu East that infrastructural development and other life enhancing projects would be extended to every part of the State as the in coming PDP Government when elected, would work together from the National to the State; and down to the Local Governments.
The Senator commended Senator Gill Nnaji for being in control of Enugu East and called on the people to vote massively for the PDP.
Earlier in his address, Senator Gill Nnaji explained that the purpose of their visit was to thank Senator Ekwetemadu for the fatherly roles he played in the just concluded PDP Party primaries in the State and attributed his victory to God, the people and Senator Ekweremadu.
According to Senator Nnaji “we have come to say thank you and give honour to whom honour is due. Senator Ekweremadu gave immense support to me at the primaries and also helped me become a Senator”.
Also speaking on behalf of traditional rulers from Enugu East Senatorial District, HRH Igwe Nwatu Eze Agabi extolled Senator Ekweremadu for his leadership roles in Enugu State and the South East at large and assured him of the continuous of support of the traditional institution.
