Striking judicial workers lock out judges, lawyers in Enugu


Judges at Appeal courts, Federal High Courts and Industrial Courts in Enugu were on Tuesday locked out of their offices, DailyPost can authoritative report.

Lawyers and their clients were also left stranded at the premises of the courts. The action was in line with the on-going nationwide industrial action by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).

Gates leading in and out of the Federal, Appeal and Industrial courts in the state were under lock and key.

when DailyPost investigation probed further, a staff of the Federal High Court, Enugu said they were fighting for the increment of their salaries, stressing thus “our welfare package is nothing to write home about. It is very discouraging. They are taking us for granted and we can’t tolerate that any longer”.

Lawyers and clients who spoke on the matter expressed concern over the possible impact the strike would have on the judiciary.

“We are appealing to the government and all the parties to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

“This kind of thing affects our case in the court in the area of time and cost”, one of the clients said.
