Members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) in the National Assembly were, on Tuesday, barred from entering the National Assembly complex on the orders of the NASS management.
The operatives arrived at the National Assembly early enough ahead of today’s plenary and were stopping anyone with the National Assembly identity card from entering the building.
The development followed PASAN’s threat to ground activities at the National Assembly over the non payment of their statutory allowances to the tune of N2.7 billion.
In yesterday’s protest during which they successfully stopped people from accessing the complex, they vowed to continue the protest until Wednesday when President Muhammadu Buhari was due to present the 2019 national budget before a joint sitting of the upper and lower legislative chambers.
However, lawmakers and journalists were allowed to enter the complex. While journalists, upon display of their identity cards were allowed in through the first gate, lawmakers were coming in through the Villa gate.
However, water and electricity supply to the Assembly which was ceased on Monday due to the strike by PASAN members have been restored.
