Federal government’s negotiation with ASUU on the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has ended in a stalemate.

The meeting which held on Monday, had in attendance representatives of the Senate, the Federal government, as well as the leadership of ASUU.

Sources privy to the meeting confirmed to DailyPost that the parley ended with no shifting ground, as the striking lecturers stood their ground.

The meeting called at the instance of the chairman, Senate Committee on Education, Senator Uche Chukwumerije, sought to convince ASUU to reconsider its tough stance on the matter.

Chukwumerije, was said to have pleaded with the Union to consider the plight of the students who are presently idling away at home.

ASUU however insisted that the negotiation did not provide a cogent assurance upon which it could end its present action.

Officials in attendance at the meeting include, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Minister of Education, Professor Ruquayyatu Rufai; Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, NUC, Professor Julius Okojie.

Others are members of the Senate Committee on Education, Senior Staff of Education Ministry, among others.
