The manager of a Cocoa multipurpose union, Akinwumi Akinmolere has allegedly been killed by one of the contract staff working with the union who has been identified as Adewale Adegoroye in Akure.
The deceased was said to have been stabbed to death by Adegoroye following a heated argument as regards months of accumulated salary.
Confirming the gruesome killing of the sixty-year-old manager to reporters on Thursday evening, the spokesman of the Ondo state Police Command, Femi Joseph, disclosed that the culprit stabbed his boss, who died at the state specialist hospital in Akure as a result of injuries sustained in the attack.
He said, “We got wind of the information on August 1 that the manager went to the bank to withdraw some money and one of his staff trail him home.
“On getting to the house, this staff fought with his boss (manager) and stabbed him to death with a cutlass.
“After stabbing him, the culprit stole the money and jumped the fence of the house after committing the crime.
“But he was seen by neighbours in that vicinity and was subsequently arrested and brough to the station,” he said.
Adegoroye, who confessed to have committed the crime, explained that he had been working since 3rd of September 2017 without any pay from the manager who brought him from Lagos to work in Ondo.
He stressed that the deceased refused to pay him all the while, despite working as assistant store keeper in the cocoa company.
“I went to his house on Wednesday to inquire about my salary because I have no money to eat but instead he told me there was no money.
“Later, his wife called and gave me N500 to eat and while leaving their house, I immediately saw him with money and asked him to pay me.
“But he refused and I told him to his face that it shows he was using me as a slave and an argument ensued.
“He slapped me and I saw a cutlass in the house, draw it and used it to stab him and took the money I saw.
“But while I was leaving the house, some people accosted and beat me up while they took me to the police,” he narrated.
