A former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Prince Chibudom Nwuche, has urged political leaders in Rivers State to eschew bitterness and be their brother’s keeper.
Nwuche stated this while speaking on behalf of Rivers State’s elder statesmen at the 2017 edition of the Annual Sun Awards, where the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, was conferred with the Sun Governor of the Year award.
In a statement in Abuja on Thursday, Nwuche was quoted as saying: “I urge political leaders in Rivers and the South South to stop denigrating and running one another down.”
According to him, negative tendencies were greatly affecting the development of the region.
Nwuche also commended the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, who was conferred with the Sun Governor of the Year award recently.
He further urged Governor Wike to continue in his peace-building effort.
“It is a shame when Niger Delta leaders keep setting up, blackmailing and using security agencies and fighting each other instead of using their positions to develop the region and its people,” he said.
Nwuche said despite sponsored write ups against his effort at peace building and putting the people first, he refused to see politics as a war without end as some desperate politicians were doing.
