Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has warned members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state to stop misleading its residents.
ACN also advised the party to remain quiet, if it can not figure out a particular way to engage the state government.
The party in a communiqué issued on Thursday by its state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said that the PDP had resorted to blackmail because it lacked the capacity to engage the government.
The party avowed that PDP’s call on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to probe the periodic celebration of days in Lagos by the Babatunde Fashola administration was unfortunate.
The ACN said, “This type of thinking that afflicts the rank and file of the PDP has led its Lagos chapter to think that they will secure mileage in Lagos by indulging in wild allegations.
“The PDP ends up making no sense in its present belief that rumour, falsehood and wolf crying will secure them a mileage to get and wreck Lagos, as they have done in the greater parts of Nigeria in 14 years.
“It takes nothing but plain childishness born out of the worst form of self-serving intent for a supposed party to call for an EFCC probe of a stocktaking event that enables the government to know the feeling of the people it governs and to improve on the record of achievement that has made the state a reference point in Nigeria.
“We know that a party that is looting will certainly prefer the usual free sharing sessions that have become a pastime of the respective PDP governments since 1999.”
The statement added that ACN knew that the PDP would never engage the state government on its performance but would prefer “futile flight” of crying to its Federal Government to probe Lagos for reasons best known to them.
The party said, “So laughable is Lagos PDP’s reference to ACN governors’ aversion to the mock show it calls ‘Federal government good governance tour’. We wonder what a party that has been the best reference ever in coveting irresponsible power and a government that is a record breaker in incompetence, corruption and impunity knows about good governance.
“For a party to allege that Fashola’s government has collected N16tn from the Federal Government, generating N40bn monthly as IGR and amassing debts in excess of N900bn, is ridiculous.”
The ACN asked the PDP to come forward with its facts to support its claim.
It added, “We laugh at the challenge to a debate thrown by the PDP to the Lagos State government. We believe that it is only a party that can recognise performance that can debate on performance and that excludes the PDP.
“We wonder what a party that has excelled in enhancing poverty, presiding over monumental infrastructural decay, enabling looting of state funds, widening the circle of insecurity, impunity and avarice stands to teach Nigerians about good governance.”
