Umar Ghali Na’abba, former Speaker of the House of Representatives has urged the Committees of the House to desist from visiting Ministry, Departments and Agencies, MDAs.

He said they have no reason to visit MDAs because they are not auditors.

Na’abba, who served as Speaker in the 4th Assembly, spoke at the inauguration of the House standing and Special committees at the Green Chamber on Wednesday.

He spoke on behalf of the former Presiding officers and Principal officers who were invited to the inauguration.

He noted that the Committees should not be going to MDAs for oversight, rather invite them if there is a need for clarification.

The former speaker said, “we are always embarrassed when we see committees visiting MDAs, the legislature is a very important institutions, the members are not auditors, this is not for the institution to be trouping to MDAs. I am sorry, if this offends some of you……”

He also called on the lower chamber to strengthen existing laws on kidnapping.
