Stop detaining APC members over phantom murder cases – Bimbo Daramola tells Fayose

As the race to the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State gathers momentum, a member of the seventh House of Representatives, Hon. Bimbo Daramola, has told Governor Ayodele Fayose, to stop detaining members of the All Progressives Congress(APC) over phantom murder cases.

Commenting on Fayose’s outburst that the APC has no capacity to defeat his party in any poll, Daramola said the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) , has no sellable candidate that can easily win election in the state, describing the governor’s indomitable theory as an empty boast.

He said this on Tuesday in reaction to continued detention of seven of their members in prison custody over the murder of the former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Chief Omolafe Aderiye and Mrs Julianah Adewumi in 2014 .

Daramola, who was the Director General of the Kayode Fayemi campaign organization during the 2014 governorship poll, said this at the weekend while declaring his governorship ambition at the APC Secretariat in Ado Ekiti.

He said the APC lost the 2014 governorship election due to some technical mistakes, promising that he would correct the mistakes of the past and make the party stronger if given the opportunity.

“If our party has not got it wrong, why should our members like : Rotimi Olabiwonu, Sola Adenijo, Bayo Aderiye and others could be kept in prison for over two years over murder cases they knew nothing about without our party doing anything? We have to correct all these ill-feelings for us to have a united family.

“For the party to be able to defeat Fayose and his party, I beg the State Working Committee to handle the primaries with caution and to also take cognizance of the records of the contributions of each of the aspirants to the party”.

He promised to unify the party and treat the elders with utmost respect if given the ticket, saying “this party has a rich history and as an insider, I know where we got it wrong and I know how we can correct the past mistakes and forge ahead stronger.

“What is important is politics and if our members are not united or get what they deserve , then politics and party become useless and irrelevant . We must continue to build this party and be hopeful that we will return to power in 2018”.

The Deputy Chairman of the Party, Mrs Kemi Olaleye, who commended Daramola for his loyalty, said the party will do thorough sieving of all the aspirants, numbering 31 , for it to get the best out of them to fly the party’s flag.

“We are going to weigh all the aspirants and we will be transparent in doing this. We are not taking chances in this election, it is an election we should devote our time and energy to win.”
