Stay away from partisan politics or be sanctioned – NBC warns TV and radio stations

Government owned television and radio Stations across the country have being warned by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to stay away from partisan politics in their news coverage this period, threatening to sanction any Broadcast Station that defaults.

The NBC’s Director General, Dr Emeka Mba, disclosed this yesterday in Abuja at a one-day sensitization meeting on Political Broadcasting which was put together by its Zonal Office where he said the Commission was not happy with State owned broadcast stations because they have become mouthpiece of the party in powers and not allowing opposition equal airtime to voice out their views.

Mba called on Broadcasters to always verify their stories instead of spreading rumours.

He further stated that the NBC has issued a big warning to all broadcast stations involved in such acts to desist as anyone found wanting will be sanctioned.
