The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, on Tuesday said that the state governments should be allowed to decide the minimum wage they can pay in line with their financial capabilities.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja, Oyegun said both the Federal and State executives would have to consider the demand in line with their ability to pay.

Oyegun said, “That is always what happens but this must be based on the economic realities on the ground, the ability to pay.

“Perhaps to even demonstrate that this is not a central but a federal matter, that states should be allowed to make their decisions based on their ability to pay.

“The cost of living is not the same in every part of the country.”

Recall that the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, recently proposed N56, 000 as minimum wage for the Nigerian workers.
