France has won the first edition of the Star Sixes World Cup after defeating Denmark 2-1 at the O2 Arena on Sunday evening.
Ludovic Giuly and Youri Djorkaeff’s scored for Les Bleus, while Daniel Jensen’s goal only counted as a consolation effort.
Surprise package of the championship, Denmark failed to repeat their impressive semi-final performance against Brazil, which saw them win 4-2 and had to settle for second place.
Brazil suffered further humiliation, as Spain crushed them 11-3 to finish in third place.
Michel Salgado finished as competition’s topscorer with nine goals, while Denmark’s Martin Jogensen was named Star of the tournament.
Nigeria was eliminated in the quarter-final, after a 8-1 thrashing by Spain.
