Wuse Zone 2 area, Abuja was Friday night thrown into pandemonium as gunmen stormed the area.
The incident which occurred at about 9: 40pm, caused panic among residents and visitors of the area. Car owners, public transport drivers and commuters scampered for safety as the gunmen hit the area.
Eyewitness say the robbers arrived in two cars and fired several shots in the air to scare those around.
Speaking to Dilypost, a source who was on his way home from work said the bandits were all clad in black outfit and brandished sophisticated weapons.
According to him, “I was about to alight from the bus I joined from Zuba when the men arrived. I saw them, but quickly covered by face and hid my head. Other passengers and our driver did the same thing. We were all scared of stray bullet.”
He said it is unclear whether the attackers where on a trail of a particular person or were on a mission to rob the Total Filling station located at the end of the Zone 2 road.
The service station, which opened just over two months ago, is only a few meters away from the Zone 2 Police Command.
A nearby resident say the attack might have been repelled as they heard what sounded like exchange of gunfire for about ten minutes.
Most parts of Abuja Central Area are well covered by security agents, a development linked to the high number of influential individuals living there as well as fear of attack by the dreaded Boko Haram sect.
