As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to celebrate this year’s St. Valentine’s Day, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has warned Nigerians, especially youth on the need to avoid activities that are capable of putting them and their loved ones at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases on Valentine’s Day.

The Agency noted that the high rate of indiscriminate sexual activities perpetrated on Valentine’s Day has led to uninformed decision making among adolescents.

In a press statement issued yesterday in Abuja through the chief communications officer, NACA, Mrs Toyin Aderibigbe, the Agency said in its efforts to actualize a generation free from HIV/AIDS, it is advising that at this season of love, Nigerians should be principled and abstain from sex or indulge only in protected sex.

While reminding Nigerians of the ABC approach to HIV/AIDS prevention, Aderibigbe explained that this concept in its basic form suggests prevention, education, and health promotion which provides simple steps in curbing the spread of HIV/AIDS.
