Report reaching us from Makurdi, the Benue State capital has it that there are ongoing efforts by security agencies in the state to disrupt the 10,000 man match organised by the Idoma ethnic group.
Idoma, the second largest ethnic group in the state are organizing a protest against the continuous dominance of the Tivs in the political terrain.
The people are crying out to the Tivs, the largest ethnic group to allow an Idoma man govern the state after 38 years.
This prompted the Idoma Governor Support Group and the Idoma People of Nigeria to organize 10,000 man match in protest of the marginalisation of the people.
The protest which was slated to take place in Makurdi today has been disrupted as the State Security Service has reportedly moved in the scuttle the planned protest.
Speaking with DAILY POST on phone, one of the organizers of the protest, Comrade Prince Yemi Itodo said two of their members have been arrested by the SSS.
“As I’m taking to you, Comrade Perhot Apeh of Idoma Governor Support Group and Comrade Magaji Alidu, former NAIS President have been held by the SSS in Makurdi as security operatives have moved in to frustrate the solidarity rally for Idoma governorship”, he said.
