Report reaching DAILY POST says Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the non-Academic Staff Union, at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State are currently protesting against the appointment of Prof. Ayobami Salami as the institution’s new vice chancellor.
The protesters which were led by the Chairmen of both union, Mr. Ademola Oketunde and Wole Odewumi commenced the protest as early as 8a.m.
Addressing the protesters who converged in front of the University’s Senate building, Oketunde lashed out at the institution’s governing body, saying despite the court order stopping the process of appointing a new VC, the governing council went ahead and announced Salami as Omole’s successor.
The aggrieved union accused the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof Bamitale Omole of financial recklessness, saying the outgoing VC insisted on installing his deputy to cover his alleged illegal acts.
Prior to his appointment as the successor to Omole, he was the Deputy Vice Chancellor, academics.
As at the time of filing this report, the protest was still ongoing.
