Ghana’s Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga, has made it clear that the country is not interested in hosting next year’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF), is currently looking for a new host for the continental competition, after Morocco confirmed they will not host, because of the fear of the deadly Ebola virus.
It was rumoured that Ghana might be interested in replacing the North African country, but officials have now ruled out the possibility.
“On the issue of the tournament, the FA president came to brief me on their discussions and we have indicated to him that from the representation that we have received from the people health sector it doesn’t look Ghana is in the position to accept hosing the tournament and I think he (Kwesi Nyantakyi) has since conveyed this message to CAF,” Ayariga exclusively told Joy FM.
Ghana are however in the race to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, with six other nations.
