Arsenal board have told manager, Arsene Wenger, to get ready to spend big this summer, or his days may be numbered at the club.
According to a report in the UK Sun, the Frenchman has been told to strengthen his squad with marquee signings at the end of the season, else he will not be offered a new deal.
The Gunners have about £159m in cash reserves – probably more than any other club in the world. But Wenger is notoriously known to be a slow dealer in the transfer market.
Although he has brought in Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez for huge sums in recent seasons, he failed to buy a world-class forward last summer, with only Petr Cech coming in.
Wenger is not expected to be sacked no matter how Arsenal’s season pans out, but the board is ready to give him an ultimatum ahead of the final year on his current deal.
