Speed Limiter: We now have fewer road accidents – FRSC

Barely two months after the introduction of the speed limiter device, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC in Plateau Central, on Thursday said the impact of the device is being felt as fewer accidents were being recorded in the zone.

The pronouncement was made by the Plateau Central Unit Commander of the Corps, Nnamdi Ikeh-Akabogu, while briefing journalists in Pankshin on developments two months after the enforcement of the speed limiter device in the country.

Ikeh-Akabogu said, “We are so glad that since the introduction of the speed limiter device in the country by our Corps, we have been recording fewer accidents on our roads especial the dangerous spots like Snake road along Panyam–Shandam road.

“This is a good development for us, because we are targeting total safety on our roads and shall continue to ensure total compliance by all commercial drivers.

“We now know how important it was that we sensitised drivers in the hinterlands on the enforcement date and the punishment for defaulters on the device, ’’ he said.

The Unit Commander maintained that the Corps has not slowed down in its push in ensuring that all motorists install the device so as to further bring down road crashes to its barest minimum.

He disclosed that within the two months of introducing the device, the Pankshin Zonal Office have recorded only five road crashes, which was a complete departure from the past.

The FRSC boss noted that it was in the interest of the drivers, especially commercial drivers, to ensure that their vehicles were kitted with the device.

Ikeh-Akabogu expressed optimism that the speed limiter would checkmate fatality on the roads and save millions of lives in the country.

He pledged to descend heavily on defaulters, warning that whoever is arrested shall pay a heavy fine.
