Speed limiter device: Defaulters shall face arrest, charges – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Friday threatened to descend on defaulters as it begins enforcement of the speed limit device on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

The FRSC Unit Commander, Pankshin Unit Command, ACC Nnamdi Ikeh-Akabogu, gave the warning in Pankshin during a stakeholders’ forum to sensitise the driving public on the enforcement of the device next month.

Ikeh-Akabogu asserted that the Speed Limiter would bring the Road Crash fatality to zero.

He warned motorists who are fond of over speeding to beware of the wrath of the Corps.

“We are worried over the carnage on our roads and the wanton loss of innocent lives caused by over speeding by reckless drivers and are ready to stop such at all cost.

“The Federal Government’s resolve to introduce the speed limiter was basically to see that death on our roads are brought to zero level by God’s Grace beginning from next Month,’’ he said.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion and Provost Federal College of Education (FCE) Pankshin, Dr. Amos Cirfat, thanked the Unit Commander for organizing such a forum, saying it would go a long way in safeguarding the lives of Nigerian citizens.

Cirfat, who called on the public to support the laudable project, however, called on Government to cut down the price of the device to enable common Nigerians afford it, since it was meant to save lives.

In his good will message, Mr Stephen Jings, the Chairman of Pankshin LGA, represented by Mr. Andrew Damulak, Councillor Works, commended the Unit Commander and his men for the good works of saving lives in Plateau Central Zone.

Jings also pleaded with the government to reduce the price considering the recession currently being faced by all Nigerians.

Other stakeholders such as NURTW, APC and party stalwarts, Bank Managers, among others expressed their supports but all called for a down ward review of the price of the speed limiter to enable all car owners buy it.
