The political face-off in Bauchi is far from over and another indication of this has emerged with Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representatives, asking the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’adu Abubakar, to wade into a tussle he said was created by Governor Mohammed Abubakar Abdullahi.
Dogara, in a letter, reported to the Sultan that Abubakar was causing unnecessary crisis over renovation of mosques in Bogoro, Dass, Tafawa Balewa Federal constituency.
The memo copied the governor, DG SSS, Emir of Bauchi, HRH Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, Sheikh Baba Lau and Sheikh Sanni Yahya Jinjir.
In the letter seen by DAILY POST, Doagra recalled that he had embarked on renovation and reconstruction of mosques in the constituency but that the Governor allegedly ordered the District Head and the council chairman to stop the work or lose their jobs.
He described the development as a show of power, even as people of the towns involved had looked forward to the completion of the renovations.
Dogara said it was unfortunate that the Governor insisted the Speaker must not be allowed to carryout the renovation so as not to take the credit.
The head of the green chamber in the National Assembly told the Sultan in the letter that “my religion teaches me not to discriminate or worsen the condition which other adherent worships.”
Dogara appealed to the Sultan to intervene in the episode, “to have the mosques renovated and for the governor to restore the District head of Dull to his stool.”
Dull is located in Tafawa-Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi state.
Dogara expressed hope that the intervention of the Sultan will bring sucour to the people of his federal constituency and encourage peaceful co-existence which the Sultan is championing.
It is not yet known if the Sultan has intervened in the matter.
DAILY POST, however, gathered that the renovations of the mosques remain halted.
Recall that Dogara recently accused the state government of not granting him access to traditional rulers.
On his part, Abubakar, dismissed reports of any “rift” with the Speaker and that he is not at war with Dogara.
