The health status of little Miss Okikijesu has continued to generate buzz in the social media, even as event marking the official social media campaign for awareness/ fund raising to offset her medical bill was held June 30 at the Juice Place- 2, Wuse 2, Abuja.
The event was tagged “Social media, Social Responsibility.
Little Miss Okiki was born without 40 percent of her skull. Her survival in the said condition remains a mystery and the first of its kind on the African soil and in the world at large. Well-meaning Nigerians, including the Speaker of the House of Representative have risen to the occasion to save the life of the little child. Okiki has successfully undergone a ground breaking surgical operation at John Hopkins Hospital, USA as administered by Ben Carson, a world renowned medical Doctor.
However, speaking at the IBLOG event organized by Omonike Odi, Executive Director of iblog network, aimed at raising funds and awareness for the impaired child, the former Most Beautiful girl in Nigeria (MBGN, 2011); Sylvia Nduka had thanked all well-meaning Nigerians who had contributed in one way or the other towards the survival of little Okikijesu. Speaking with DailyPost, Sylvia expressed her appreciation to the Speaker of the House of Representative, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal for his support for the child. She said, “ I want to thank the Honorable Speaker of the House of Representative, Right Honorable AMINU TAMBUWAL in his visible contributions. He has through his action, demonstrated a heart fsull of compassion and desire to see OKIKIJESU live a normal and qualitative life. I thank him for demonstrating such dexterity beyond even politics, a Clarion call on other political Leaders and men of conscience to follow suit. Reports say the speaker and his colleagues have donated huge amount of money to assist in offsetting the first accumulated hospital bills for the little OkikiJesu.
The ex-beauty Queen had reiterated her commitment to the course, by ensuring that Okiki returns to Nigeria hale and hearty. Thanking other contributors, she said “Having taken time to go through little OKIKIJESU’s medical history, I cannot, but admire the tenacious and selfless sacrifice of Men and Women of good heart”
Speaking on Mr. Nuhu Kwajafa and his team at the global initiative for raising the first and the immediate funds required for the Surgery at John Hopkins Hospital, U.S.A on record time, she said that by Nuhu’s stride and in total conformity to the will of God, OKIKIJESU would smile again.
Commenting on the organization of the event, she said that the social media campaign was made possible through Miss OMONIKEE on whose platform they had gathered. She said that her desire to use her program, iBLOG to create the needed awareness through the SOCIAL MEDIA was highly commendable.
Reiterating her commitment in the project, she said, “my NGO, Sylvia Educational Empowerment (seed) also seeks to support the little one. So far, we have 22 kids under our care and supervision, and we will see them through school, providing tuition, books, and Uniforms for Children in Primary Schools. This is why we are so committed to this course. It’s what we do every day.
