Real Madrid without star forward Cristiano Ronaldo has won the 2017 Spanish Super Cup.

Even with Isco and Bale starting from the bench in the second leg of the competition, Real defeated their arch rivals 2-0 as first half goals from Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema sealed a 5-1 aggregate Super Cup win.

Asensio netted in the fourth minute with a left footed effort from 30 yards while Benzema made 2-0 39th minute.

Real put Ronaldo’s five-game ban behind them by out-playing Barcelona.

Although Ernesto Valverde’s side came into the second half stronger with both Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez seeing efforts hit the woodwork, Real were by then in cruise control.

Barca missed the presence of injured captain Andres Iniesta in the encounter.
