The Rivers State governorship candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Biokpomabo Awara, has been announced the winner of the election in Ahoada West Local Government Area of the oil-rich state.
Awara, who is endorsed by the Rotimi Amaechi-led faction of the All Progressives Congress in the state, scored 44,857 votes to defeat incumbent Governor Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who had paltry 5,866 votes.
The results were announced at the INEC office in Akinima by the LGA Collation Officer, Okechukwu Francis.
Prior to Wednesday when Rotimi Amaechi announced his party’s endorsement of the AAC to challenge PDP’s Wike, Awara had no considerable presence in campaigns ahead of the polls.
There are 23 local government areas in Rivers State.
