Southern Kaduna Killings: How Governor El-Rufai can end crisis – CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has advised the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai to consult a former governor of the state and Caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sen Ahmed Makarfi on how to resolve the crisis in the state.

Addressing journalists in Jos, Plateau State, the Northern Chairman of CAN, Rev Yakubu Pam said isolated killings in the southern part of Kaduna State had claimed more lives than the real crisis.

He urged the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, to take proactive steps towards curbing silent killings in Kaduna.

The clergy man expressed fear that the Southern Kaduna crisis if not checkmated could affect the peace and unity of the entire country.

Pam urged the Federal Government to dialogue with aggrieved groups and all faith organisation in the area to stop the menace.

According to Pam, “We are worried over the ongoing isolated killings in Southern Kaduna State which appears to have claimed more lives than the crisis, innocent persons are being attack and kill; the military and the police should take appropriate measures to stop the killings because it would affect the entire north.

“The crisis started with the killing of one person and graduated to five, ten, 20 and today hundreds of lives have perished, yet with the heavy security presence, people are still being ambushed and killed in the bush.

“Governor El-Rufai should consult his former colleagues, particularly Sen. Ahmed Makarfi to know how he solved the problem during his administration, because the step he has taken so far has not yielded the desirous result.

“Also, the Federal and Kaduna State government should take urgent steps in solving the problem; otherwise there would be no solution to what will likely happen in other states.”
