Southern Kaduna Crises: Government must jail culprits – Hon. Soba

Worried by carnage occasioned by the crises in Southern Kaduna, member representing Soba federal constituency of Kaduna State, Hon. Mohammed Musa Soba has insisted that culprits must be prosecuted and jailed to serve as deterrence to would-be trouble makers.

In an interview with DAILY POST in Abuja, Mohammed explained that the crisis which has its historical antecedents spanning over thirty years ago, has been an act of impunity and lawlessness, lamenting that no Commission of Inquiry set up by previous administrations has solved the problems.

“Southern Kaduna crises have its historical antecedents well over 30years ago. Like governor Nasir El-rufa’i pointed, it was a case of impunity and lawlessness that people decide to kill and maim each other”, he said.

“At the end of the day, Commission of inquiry is set up, take up a report and nothing happens,” he added.

Part of the solutions he said, was sensitisation of the people on the need for peace, noting that the decision to give peace a chance was entirely that of the people and not the government.

Soba insisted that stiffer penalty must be used as consequences to those involved in the crises, stressing that government has responsibility to arrest and prosecute them.

“Government does not force anybody to live with his neighbour, but it has responsibility to step in when anybody violates the laws of the land. Government should arrest, investigate and prosecute trouble-makers.”

He urged security agents to to be honest and discrete in handling killings in Southern Kaduna in order to unravel those who are on the wrong side of the law.
