The Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, South East Zone C, Comrade Chris Isiguzo has been elected as the President General of Umukabia Progressive Movement, UPM Federated, the umbrella body of Umukabia Community in Umuahia North Council of Abia State.
DAILY POST learnt that in a keenly contested election supervised by a former President General of the Community, Hon. Ken Nwabara and Mr. Chimereze Ekeledo, Isiguzo defeated two other contestants to emerge the winner.
He polled 65 votes while Hon. Obinna Nwadinobi and Chimdi Omesuo, Special Adviser to Abia State Governor got 57 and 13 votes votes respectively.
Other new officers include, Chief Iheanyi Echeta, Vice President General, Ikedi Azaribe, Secretary General, High Chief Goddy Ezeocha, Treasurer, Humphery Igwe Publicity Secretary.
Mr. Chinedu Asiegbu, Financial Secretary, Ndudim Jonah, Assistant Financial Secretary, Job Obarigwe, Welfare, Kelechi Nmesirionye, Adindu and Chukwudi Uzoukwu emerged as Circular bearers.
In his acceptance speech, the new President General said their election was a call to service which he pledged to do selflessly and with dedication.
While promising to lead a peaceful, rancour-free, progressive minded amd development-oriented administration, Isiguzo expressed appreciation to the community for reposing their confidence in him.
Earlier, the traditional ruler of Okaiuga Alaike Autonomous Community, Eze Uzo Nwosu commended the peaceful conduct of the election and pledged his readines to work with the new executive led by Isiguzo.
