The Buhari Support Organisation (BSO) Enugu State chapter on Wednesday flayed the Enugu West Peoples Forum, which had called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Mr Osita Okechukwu, the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON).
The Buhari group insisted that rather than attack Okechukwu, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu should be held accountable over the state of infrastructure in the South-East.
In a statement on Wednesday by its spokesman, Chibueze Eze, BSO Enugu State chapter, while describing the Enugu West Peoples Forum as an unknown group, expressed outrage over the call for Okechukwu’s sack.
BSO said it would have kept mute but for the caustic statement on pages of national newspapers, where the group had declared that, “unfortunately for him (Okechukwu), all he has to show for his efforts is the Director General of a moribund government media house, which nobody listens to, even as he was never considered fit for Minister of Information, DG Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) or Board member of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).”
Okechukwu was verbally attacked by the group after he stated that the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu lacked the morality to accuse President Muhammadu Buhari of running down the economy.
Reacting to the above assertion, the pro-Buhari group stated: “We are at a loss where the statement which is neither an answer to nor located with Mr Okechukwu’s statement that, “Am surprised that Ekweremadu who allegedly diverted the money meant for Enugu-Port Harcourt major highway to his village road and sundry matters, had the effrontery today to query President Muhammadu Buhari for borrowing interest free intest Sukuk N100 billion loan to fix Enugu-Port Harcourt, Enugu-Onitsha major highways and similar highways projects across the federation.
“Secondly, BSO Enugu State is aware that Mr Okechukwu has never complained over his appointment, but is very busy trying to upgrade the Transmitters and Webcast of VON; for wider global audience. VON is not a moribund agency.”
BSO, therefore, challenge the Forum to provide answers on how Mpu-Ishiagu road, which had lower vehicle per day (VPD) traffic profile made the federal budget under Senator Ekweremadu watch, instead of Enugu-Port Harcourt a major highway in the region, which has higher vehicle per day traffic profile.
“It is trite knowledge that roads with higher VPD traffic are accorded priority in the budget. Not for those who used powers under former President Goodluck Jonathan to mangle projects.
“In sum, we call on Enugu West Peoples Forum, to advise their paymaster, Senator Ekweremadu, who is the political leader of our Zone to as a matter of urgent national importance to publish national dailies monies voted in the last five years for critical infrastructures like Oji River-Awgu-Mpu-Ishiagu roads, Enugu Airport etc. This is to ascertain why South East infrastructures are dilapidated”, BSO said.
