Former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo has singled out South Africa forward, Percy Tau for praise, following Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with the Bafana Bafana in Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifying fixture at the BFN Stadium in Johannesburg.
An own goal from South Africa defender, Buhle Mkhwanazi, and a strike from striker, Lebo Mothiba ensured both sides got a point.
Yobo said Tau gave Gernot Rohr’s men a lot of problems with his darting runs, adding that at the end it was a draw and a tough match.
The former Everton of England center-back, however, congratulated the Eagles for qualifying for the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
“It was a tough game, but the Super Eagles got the job done under a tough weather condition,” Yobo told Super Sports.
“Percy Tau gave the Super Eagles a lot of problems with his darting runs, but at the end it was a draw.”
“The Nigerian team had chances to kill off the game, but they were unlucky. But as it is, they are through to the next AFCON tournament and I believe they will get better.
“It is a good progression from the World Cup and now the Nations Cup. So they need more of consistency to stay up there, but I will say congratulations once again to them.”
Nigeria will face Seychelles in their final Group E game in March 2019, while Libya who must win to qualify for the 2019 AFCON will host South Africa in Sfax, Tunisia for their final game.
